‘I found the performance wholly absorbing, and started thinking about the Lares, the household gods of the Romans, where the domestic sphere is also the site of the sacred.’

The 17th century English composer Henry Purcell died at the tender age of 35 (or 36 depending on who you ask). Mystery surrounds his death: some believe he died of exposure after returning from the theatre one night only to find that he’d been locked out by his wife. Others think is was tuberculosis, or something more sinister.
Continuing the company’s journey into classical music, ANOTHER LAMENT investigates the tragedy of Purcell’s music and his untimely demise. Following the success of their collaboration with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, this time Rawcus are joined by a solo instrument: Danish bass player and chanteuse Ida Duelund Hansen.
Reveries and improvisations on Purcell are at the centre of this tableau vivant, created by artists with and without disabilities.
Rawcus is supported by a partnership of Scope (VIC) Leisure Action and the City of Port Phillip.
