Teorema (Italian for 'theorem') is based on Pasolini's film made in 1968, a work that spurred controversy with the Vatican, and still has the capacity to ruffle feathers.
A charming and mysterious boarder takes up residence in the house of a well-to-do family. One by one, the boarder seduces or is seduced by every member of the household--mother, father, daughter, son and household maid.
The legacy of their encounters impacts on each member profoundly, and very differently. In Teorema orchestral instruments replace individual voices, the entire work enacted without singing to Battistelli's striking score.
