YOUNG ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
FOR CHAMBER MADE OPERA

COMPOSER DAVID YOUNG IS APPOINTED TO LEAD MELBOURNE’S CHAMBER MADE OPERA. THIS FOLLOWS THE STANDING DOWN OF DOUGLAS HORTON AFTER 2O YEARS WITH THE COMPANY.

The Board of Chamber Made Opera is pleased to announce the appointment of composer David Young to the position of Artistic Director of the company.

“David has produced highly innovative contemporary performance projects and music commissions in Australia and internationally over his fifteen years as Artistic Director of the cross-artform company Aphids, and he has been deeply involved in contemporary arts development at the cutting edge of the performing arts” said Chamber Made Opera Chair, Karen Hadfield.

“I have followed Chamber Made Opera’s activity almost since its inception, and like many artists and companies, was strongly influenced by the stream of extraordinary, groundbreaking chamber operas and music theatre works that make up its oeuvre” said Chamber Made Opera’s new Artistic Director, David Young.

“I have always seen Chamber Made Opera as a critical element of Victoria’s cultural infrastructure – the only dedicated commissioning and producing platform for contemporary music theatre and chamber opera in the country. I am so looking forward to stretching the definition of chamber opera as the company begins a whole new phase of evolution.”

Chamber Made Opera will soon be announcing its 2010 projects which include partnerships with Aphids, Speak Percussion and Victorian Opera.
